Why Fibre?

What is fibre optic internet?

Fibre optic internet is a data connection carried by a cable filled with thin glass or plastic fibers. Data travels through them as beams of light pulsed in a pattern. Fibre optic internet speeds are about 20 times faster than regular cable ranging from speeds between between 1-10 Gbps.

Advantages of using fibre optic technology:

High Speeds: Fibre optics can provide significantly faster internet speeds compared to traditional copper cables, enabling quick downloads, seamless streaming, and smooth online experiences.

Reliability: Fibre optic cables are less prone to interference from electromagnetic noise, weather conditions, or signal loss over long distances, offering a more stable and reliable internet connection.

Security: Fibre optic technology is more secure as it is difficult to tap into the signal without being detected, making it a preferred choice for transmitting sensitive data and ensuring data privacy.

Scalability: Fibre optic networks have high bandwidth capacity, allowing for easier expansion and future upgrades without the need for extensive infrastructure changes, making them a flexible option for growing internet needs.

Why is fibre optic technology better than Starlink?

Lower Latency: Fibre optic cables have lower latency compared to satellite technology used by Starlink, making them more suitable for real-time applications like online gaming and video calls.

Improved Reliability: Fibre optics are not susceptible to weather interference or signal loss caused by atmospheric conditions, unlike satellite signals like Starlink which can be affected by factors like heavy rain or snow.

Higher Speeds (More Bandwidth): Fibre optic cables can carry more data at higher speeds compared to satellite connections, offering faster and more consistent internet speeds.

Symmetrical Speeds: Fibre optic networks can provide symmetrical upload and download speeds, which is beneficial for activities like video conferencing and cloud storage, whereas Starlink typically has slower upload speeds.
